With a severe shortage of experienced candidates and high demand, the legal hiring landscape remains incredibly challenging. To help you succeed in a challenging market, our latest report breaks down average salaries for the most in-demand roles, regional demand, and market trends. In addition, we provide an exclusive insight into the importance of hybrid work in the legal field. The objective of this survey is to provide an accurate salary benchmark for the different roles that make up the accounting teams of law firms across the country, taking into account regional differences and firm size (Large = 50+ partners, Medium = 15-49 partners and Small = less than 15 partners). and assess employees` intentions to stay with their current employer for the coming year. Compliance Salary Survey for 2020 (Financial Services) To attract top legal talent in 2022, companies need to move quickly and make compelling offers that fit today`s market. To do this, they need up-to-date market data on wages, skills and trends. With this in mind, we have created two separate guides for the legal market, one for in-house counsel and the other for lawyers with their own practice. This salary survey is intended to provide an indication of the most recent information available on the remuneration of in-house counsel in the UK financial services market. It is important to note that these are not final and that there are exceptions at both ends of the salary scale. Company size, headcount and coverage, risk profile, product complexity, profitability, experience, strategies and other elements will all lead to a more accurate market rate. The purpose of this survey is to provide guidance.

The upward trend in in-house counsel salaries in the UK is expected to continue in 2020 until the emergence of the global pandemic, which continues to shake employment practices and compensation expectations. Many of these structural changes have largely not yet been fully implemented, and the results of our wage survey suggest a reduction in wage increases as the market digests the full impact of the changes. While there has been some streamlining of legal teams this year, the additional demands that the pandemic has placed on lawyers, combined with the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Brexit and other regulatory burdens from 2019, ensure that the role continues to be critical and that good lawyers continue to be in demand. This is particularly the case for candidates who claim that this is not the time to raise their heads above the parapet, resulting in a flat pool of candidates. Dramatic changes in current and planned approaches to flexible working in personal and private practice will have a significant impact on wages in 2021. While the last 12 months have been anything but a stable ship for all of us, things have certainly gone much better than in the first year of the pandemic. Growth was back on the agenda for many law firms, alongside investments in financial transformation systems and projects. However, hiring staff has not been easy.

Results from our 2020 salary survey, whose data reflects pre-pandemic agreements, showed that only 19% of respondents were working from home each week. That number has now risen to 81%, including 13% of respondents who can now work completely remotely. Although our lives have been turned upside down in recent weeks, we still had an excellent response to our members` annual salary survey.
