If a country has legalized, banned and re-legalized abortion on demand (e.g. the former Soviet Union, Romania), only the following year will be taken into account. The countries resulting from the merger of the states where abortion was legal on demand at the time of unification indicate the year in which it became legal throughout the national territory (e.g. Germany, Vietnam). Similarly, countries where not all subnational jurisdictions have legalized abortion on demand are not included (for example, resulting in the exclusion of Australia, Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United States). Countries are numbered, even if they were not yet independent at that time. The year refers to the date on which the law or court decision in question entered into force, which may differ from the year in which it was approved. *Roe v. There are so many things that we need to deal with in our country around the world that we should deal with gun straw laws. And we have killed enough children in this country! With weapons, not with doctors! The lack of access to safe and legal abortion care affects 700 million women of childbearing age. According to the World Health Organization, 23,000 women die each year from unsafe abortions and tens of thousands more suffer significant health complications. Legal restrictions on abortion do not lead to fewer abortions, but force women to risk their lives and health by seeking unsafe abortion care. While the cost and accessibility eliminate the possibility of traveling abroad for abortion treatment for many Americans, there is interest. Internet requests such as « Is abortion legal in Canada? » and « List of countries where abortion is illegal » increased this week. However, the United States is not alone in having a heated debate about abortion, and procedural laws differ in countries around the world.
Regardless of the laws surrounding abortion, rates are similar in countries where abortion is restricted and in countries where the procedure is largely legal, according to the Guttmacher Institute, which supports abortion rights.
